Pros
Good Salary,. Nice black pudding in the canteen.
Cons
Every manager is scared of the one above them, all fear change and criticism. The job is mundane, boring because the boss wants maintenance engineers to be operators. Shifts are horrific, 39 hour week, with no chance of finishing early,, nights being the worst, 2200 - 0600, but on a Friday we start at 2000 and finish 0300 Saturday morning, most of the time trying to look busy, because we're not allowed to sit down for 8 hours, even talking together is frowned upon, sorry i mean 7 hours and 40 minutes as we get two 10 minute breaks! The company is always looking at ways to save money, yet they still bring in the Friday night shift when we are not producing, we have even suggested unpaid time off, but got completely ignored. They pride themselves on work life balance, but there is only one descent weekend as on afternoons we don't finish until 2000 on the Friday.. Everything is a secret, we get our news from Midlands Today or shop floor rumours. No promotion, unless you're in bed with the management, there isn't even anything in place to let you know how you're performing, 1 to 1;s don't happen and when they do, nothing comes from them. No training at all on any of the machines, yet expected to know instantly what is wrong with them when they break down. Did get a useless 2 week course on Keisens and 5S though, so know how to cut corners off marking tape! Do not come here as an engineer as you will be degraded and humiliated, for a couple of quid less you may as well be an operator with no stress and promotion opportunities.
