Pros
The work is rewarding and you are able to learn a lot quickly. Being a startup allows you to implement processes and enact positive change in real time. Great people and team. I have experienced a lot of flexibility. There was a lot of turnover in the beginning and I feel that those that are not used to manual forensics or the volume of DFIR startup will not be happy. The problem staff have been dealt with or left and the team that is being built is great! They have treated me very well and allowed me to flourish in my niche. This is my third startup and it is not for the weak, it's the same with any newer DFIR firm. I personally went through very serious life altering challenges that made it so I had to take a leave of absence and was blown away by the support I received.
Cons
As with any straight DFIR firm the workload can get heavy. They have been rapidly hiring to offset the strain. On call is standard and should improve as we continue to hire. It is still a growing company so we face challenges from a technical & process standpoint at times but in the time I have been here we have implemented new processes and technologies that are improving this pain point. There are growing pains but that's what makes startup great.
