Pros
Intelligent and kind lower level staff. Camaraderie built upon shared suffering.
Cons
Where to begin? - Salaries at least 25% lower than industry and geographical averages for Chemical Engineers. - Cheapness pervades throughout the company culture, from paying for your own PPE to no bonus incentives for engineers below the Senior level (which requires approximately 10+ years of company service). - You will work at least 45 hours a week, with no flexibility of hours as expected from other consulting firms. - 3 sick days a year (meaning everyone in the office is constantly sick), around a week or two of starting vacation (but they may ask you not to take vacation to account for their low employee retention), and no personal days. - They pay for health insurance premiums, but the deductible is nearly $10k for a family. It is also an insurance company that is specific to New England, so good luck finding a good doctor anywhere else in the country (not that you would want to given the deductible). - Salary increases limited to 3% per year, with no accounting for inflation. And 3% is for the truly "exceptional" engineers (which means those who completely support all company decisions). - There is a salary cap set to the low six figures. So the longer you work here, the more money you are losing compared to working for another company. - Your advancement is not based on how well you perform, rather how much of a "company man" you are. Do you complain when treated badly? Do you ask to use your vacation during busy work times? Do you need to take a morning to go see the doctor? Then don't expect to get a raise that year. - You will be blamed for things outside of your control, and punished for the decisions of those above you. It sounds like a general complaint for any company, but it occurs significantly more often here because of the way that the incentive plan/analysis plan is put into place. - Some of the things you will learn are useful and interesting, but a lot of what you do here is specific to the products that are used only at ioMosaic. That means that when transferring knowledge to a new job you need to be creative.
