Pros
- Everyone is incredibly smart and truly experts in their subject matter. - It's a super flexible environment regarding working hours, hybrid/remote. - The pay is super competitive in the non profit world. You shouldn't expect to make what you might make in the private/corporate sector. HOWEVER, compared to other non profits, the pay is well above what other non profits offer. You can work at the IB and receive a livable wage and know that you're working somewhere that is making an impact. - Great benefits. Minimum of 15 vacation days, 9 PTO days, and 14 paid holidays. Solid healthcare options as well. - I'm very confused by the 'lack of diversity' comments in other reviews. I don't think it's fair to scapegoat DEI as a reason for leaving, and pretend like the IB isn't actually a very diverse organization (especially in the US office). The Executive Team has 7 members, of which only 3 are white men. The other 4 are bipoc/poc and/or women. A majority of the Executive Team isn't even American. The Board of Governors is equally diverse. The Head of DEI is a Black woman. Additionally, it's very well known amongst IB employees that over 2/3rds of employees identify as women, and a majority of the higher level roles are filled by women - including bipoc/poc women. Many of whom have been at the IB for decades. I can't speak on disability or LGBTQIA+ diversity (as not everyone is 'out' regarding their disability or LGBTQIA+ 'status'), but the racial and gender diversity is apparent at every level of the IB. So it seems pretty disingenuous to say there is a lack of diversity at the IB and that it's led by white men. All of the evidence to the contrary is available on the IB's public website and in the information employees have access to during their time at the IB. While it may not be perfect, it does exist and will continue to get better. The IB is committed to continually advancing in our DEI efforts, and not completely wiping them out like other organizations in the US are currently doing. There are other problems at the IB, for sure. But I'm not sure I'd categorize the IB's Diversity and DEI efforts as one of those problems.
Cons
- The IB struggles with opportunities for progression for employees. The way the current system is, it can be very difficult for employees to get a promotion within their same role. A lot of times, to get a promotion, you have to apply for another position, often on another team. They still provide annual salary increases (based on performance), but to get a big jump in pay, you need a promotion. And promotions are hard to come by. - Honestly, most of the Line Managers should not be Line Managers. Many of them have very little training in actually managing people and it's super obvious. - Also, in many of the professional development trainings that the IB provides there is an obvious lack of leadership attendance. It's pretty disheartening to see that most of the Senior Managers and Heads are pretty much indifferent when it comes to prioritizing their own professional growth. - Sometimes a department will start a project, announce it to the whole org, and then we never get updates again. Only to find out the project was canceled or they decided not to do anything further with the information. This has happened in EVERY department and it can be super frustrating. - The Executive Team can be slow to respond to employee questions and concerns or provide updates on 'key initiatives' they have taken on that will affect all of us. I wouldn't mind a bit of the fast moving mindset of the corporate world when it comes to the Executive Team making timely decisions.
Pros
I guess if you have nothing better to do.....
Cons
Training content is poorly written, difficult to understand, and repetitive. I have wasted a good six hours so far reading through convoluted content and haven't been able to even start the simulation or practice tests, much less see how long an actual test takes to see if this is worth it. I'm about ready to throw in the towel. I sent a message about lack of any simulations to my team lead hours ago and haven't heard back. You have to do the simulation before the practice ones, which I can't access.
