Pros
Opportunity to wear many hats and participate cross-functionally frequently in a highly dynamic environment; company's vehicle to achieve their mission involves an interesting scientific foundation that does hold great promise; most ICs were great people with abundant talent.
Cons
During and after five reductions in force occurred (shrinking the staff more than 95%), the executive team and board continued to double down on previously failed product development and sales strategies. No matter who was in leadership positions, they didn't seem to understand that the burden was on the company to show ROBUST SCIENTIFIC EVIDENCE of the clinical benefits of using glycoproteomic biomarkers that would be, obviously, the primary vehicle to drive engagement with such a largely-unknown biomarker type. Instead, large volumes of cash were spent on over-hiring, a multi-year lease in a premium luxury office building in South San Francisco, and large-scale international management retreats, among other things, while core components of the scientific engine of the company - like the long-term lab and data science infrastructure - largely got deprioritized. This only scratches the surface of the incompetence and ego-driven decision-making I witnessed while working there.
