Pros
My department is caring and compassionate. I cannot say the same for others. I do genuinely love this job but since LRS management is pressuring employees to write a good review, maybe voicing my opinions can make a change. Regular employees are amazing, management is hit or miss. Opportunities to grow (at least in my department.) Popcorn Fridays! Love the things that HR creates.
Cons
I am not disclosing my position or department in fears of retaliation. this is a right to work state (meaning your job is in jeopardy every second.) People have been fired, pressured into resignation (so unemployment won’t be paid), or treated differently for voicing their complaints. To quote George Orwell, “We are all equal. But some people are more equal than others.” Forced return to office for a *majority* of the Memphis workforce. *Some* Memphis people were given the chance to be hybrid or fully remote. most people, on the other hand, were given the finger and were told 5 days in office or get fired. If they had documented health issues, car issues, or have a 1-2 hour commute, management would not make an exception because it “wasn’t fair” to the others. They recently acquired another company with 200+ people that are all remote. A slap in the face. To add to the unfair and unequal treatment, only certain people will be able to switch roles and move from in-office to remote. They create jobs in other departments that they supposedly open to everyone, including external candidates, only to hire the person they created the job for. They keep shuffling office arrangements. Some people have switched desks for no apparent reason 4 times in 11 months only to be 3 feet from where they previously were. The equipment isn’t equitable either- some departments get brand new equipment and desks. Everyone got downsized since the move except one department. This contributes to the resentment and inequity. We all had L shaped desks at the old office and now we have extremely cramped 6 or less foot rectangles. Some desk drawers are missing keys. One department has 10+ year old equipment and shoddily built cubicles that have 15+ years of wear and tear on them. One cubicle looks like it was used in a slasher film set with a giant red stain above the desktop. They bought fancy new office furniture and conference equipment. Why couldn’t they invest in their long-term employees? Casual Fridays were removed with no explanation. Remote workers have no dress code. No sick days, no personal days, no paid maternity leave, use your 3 weeks vacation (which we all desperately need). If you do need STD or LTD. you don’t get a paid for two weeks, then use short term disability (that they pay for but only 2/3s.) Vacations also don’t roll over. They could match the benefits of the acquired company, but they won’t. Town halls are interesting. I liked how they added a live chat last one because I was paying more attention to that. The new company employees were raising their fears about getting fired in real time. Welcome to the company! :) We had to sign a waiver granting them a perpetual license to our likeness that can be sold to another company and we’d get no compensation for any user and we couldn’t sue/revoke it for any reason. If some company gets breached or wants to use my likeness for deep fake p*rn or hate speech advertising, I can’t say no to that. I can’t hold someone accountable. WiFi and hardwired in office are trash. Employee monitoring software that logs every second of what you do.
