Pros

I loved working with my clients. I felt I had developed a great relationship of trust and rapport with some of them, and enjoyed seeing their business flourish from my SEO efforts. Most of my coworkers were fun, friendly, and approachable.

Cons

There is very little overhead, so if you have a complaint about a coworker's performance affecting your clients, good luck. Upper management is disorganized and has unclear expectations and rules about sick leave, PTO, and what is/isn't allowed during work hours. I never got an employee handbook, and was unclear about how to ask for time off, or go home early if I don't feel well. I constantly felt like I would get in trouble if I requested time off "by the book," even if it was completely justified. I also felt stuck. After three years, I got more responsibilities and raises, but my title never changed. I still had an entry-level title, with management responsibilities and salary. Since the company is so small, there is no upward movement and opportunities for managerial growth.

Pros

There were some good clients, good projects, and some good coworkers

Cons

Stuck in the past. No vision from owners to take the company to the next level. The company brings in a good amount of profit, but they never reinvest back into the company. They hire, for the most part, incompetent people and pay them poor wages. However, if you are self motivated it can be a good place to get experience by teaching yourself on the job. At one point there were 5 design/coders that they paid about $25k to $30k each to produce crap and mostly sit around. There was enough work that they could have paid two excellent designers $50 to 60k, gotten good quality work and kept them busy, and had much less in employee cost overhead. But they never seem to see the big picture. There would be summers where it was slow and instead of using the time productively to produce a product to sell they would just let people sit around. It is too bad because if you had this same company under the management of competent owners it could be incredible. They have had some employees there for a very long time that have cost them lots of money and clients, and yet they never get rid of them.
