Pros
- Some jobs, like x-raying, hold baggage and vehicle search can be really interesting and fun.
- Supervisors have got your back.
- Teams can be fun and good to work with.
Cons
- Long shifts with little rotation.
- Management are inflexible and lack empathy.
- Inventing new higher ranking jobs for family and friends.
- The pay is ridiculous for the variety and what you actually do.
- The customer service element. Obviously, you know you’re going into airport security. You know what to expect. But the lack of support from management when dealing with difficult situations can be awful sometimes. Even other departments have a perception of security and seem to have preconceived notions that they’re here to make their lives miserable.
- Some shift teams are very prone to gossip and this has caused many upsetting situations for several individuals.
- Can be very very quiet sometimes. Other times it is so busy the staffing levels and infrastructure can’t cope.
- If you’re on a new contract, no shift pay, no sick leave, nothing for bank holiday. They don’t calculate holiday properly nor do they tell you how the accrual system works or how much you owe and at the end of the year most people will end up owing the company hours.
