Pros

Great staff and senior management. All staff work tirelessly to support the people that access our service which is what matters most to me, I feel privileged to work for Humankind. Fantastic support from senior managers within all recovery HUBS and head office. I have nothing but praise to say for all the support I have received in my 4.5 years working for Humankind. People who work in this environment know how difficult it is and it’s not cut out for everyone but the staff & volunteers I see on a day to day basis work hard, show compassion, empathy, resilience and are inspirational.

Cons

There are no cons in supporting people in addiction it’s a blessing.

Pros

None i can think of at this time

Cons

Waythrough’s recent implementation of new pay scales has completely demoralised frontline staff. It’s utterly disheartening to see central and internal roles receiving pay increases of £3,000–£4,000 (and in some cases, even more), while the organisation continues to refer to frontline staff as the “foundation” of their services. The irony couldn’t be more insulting. Those of us on the frontline aren’t sitting comfortably behind screens — we’re out there every day managing heavy caseloads, supporting individuals with complex, high-risk needs, and carrying immense responsibility. And while doing so, we’re expected to hit unrealistic KPIs that ultimately secure the very contracts funding the wages, roles, and additional increments enjoyed by central services. It’s an absolute slap in the face. Vacancies continue to pile up because the salaries offered for frontline roles are simply uncompetitive, with no tangible reward for retention and no clear progression through the pay scales. The so-called “out-of-cycle” pay review was meaningless — rejected time and again, unless, of course, you happen to hold an executive title. It’s no wonder that many frontline staff, myself included, are now actively seeking alternative employment — and honestly, good luck to every single one of them. The organisation needs to take a long, hard look at its values, because right now, they’re not reflected in how the very people delivering the service are being treated. It’s sad to say, but Waythrough is rapidly losing the respect and loyalty of those who have long carried it on their shoulders.
