Pros

It's a good job if you like the summers, weekends off and holidays off, plus several two week layoffs throughout the year. Holidays are paid if on a day of the week you normally work. The teaching staff at the centers are good people to work with. If you enjoy working with children you'll love the job.

Cons

Where does one start? Let's start with the fact that you have a lot of unpaid time off. There's fall layoff, spring layoff and summer layoff without pay. The pay scale is low compared to regular school pay. Healthcare cost to employees is very high in my opinion. Then there's the upper management that try to micromanage you from an office three counties away. The evaluation system is flawed. You self evaluate and then the management rescores it using same criteria for each position. Bus drivers are on same description as a teacher. Everyone gets the same verbiage and believe it or not we all needed to improve our 'composure' skills. You'll feel very un-appreciated from this process. The program passes all of their federal inspections with flying colors. That's hard to believe since all the staff that actually do the great work with the children were " uncomposed " people with very poor skills and poor evaluations. Thank goodness the parents appreciated all that the staff did and made you feel that way.
