Pros

Beautiful office, nice product, some great colleagues

Cons

Working here is a lesson in how bad leadership can stifle a great brand. HVLG builds beautiful product, but behind the scenes, it is chaotic and demoralizing. Strategy changes on a whim, communication is non-existent, and the "culture" is essentially just obedience. I’ve seen departments operate on fumes because leadership refuses to invest in long-term strategy, opting instead to either offshore roles to save money or conveniently "restructure" the department only to quietly post those same jobs months later. It’s quite sad, actually. with even a sliver of competent, humble leadership, this company could be rivaling Visual Comfort at every turn. Instead, they’ve built an echo chamber where ego outranks competence. If you are willing to nod along and ignore the dysfunction, you'll have a long career here. If you value upward mobility, mentorship and safety, maybe look at one of their competitors.

Pros

Occasional glimpses of great design work.

Cons

Cons: Zero leadership, inconsistent management, and a culture that values appearances over ability. If you’re looking for strong leadership, supportive management, or a culture built on respect — keep looking. The company loves to talk about its “bright ideas,” but most of the light here comes from the showroom, not the people leading it. Management seems to believe motivation comes from micromanagement and favoritism rather than direction or teamwork. Advancement depends less on skill and more on how well you fit their idea of “style.” (If you don’t dress cute, you’ll notice.) There are talented, hardworking people here — they just don’t stay long.
