Pros
The more articles you write, the more money you make! The pay is quite low, but at times they'll even openly admit they are going for quantity over quality. People with the ability to churn out basic human-written SEO internet articles can make bank.
Cons
The culture in the company and on the slack channel is super tech bro oriented. However, I think female tech bros exist and would do fine there. A woman who was raised around a lot of boys or wolves or something might also do fine. We may never know because I was the only female freelance writer there and I just quit. I felt ostracized when the guys joked about a woman's chest or used sexual innuendo to talk about technology or tech people. It was all innocent middle school boy humor, nothing serious. They were just wondering out loud if Elon Musk is compensating for something, etc, and it was accepted and encouraged for the guys to joke around like this with memes or words. I do not feel like I was treated differently or disrespected because I am a woman. But that is the reason that I didn't fit in. One of the editors did tell me that the reason there weren't any female editors and none or few other female freelancers was that "unfortunately, that's the demographics of the industry right now." That's not true, obviously. Overall, I'm just used to a more professional Slack channel and having a supportive female or two nearby. Culturally, this was not a good fit for me, but a more independent woman might be fine. A young tech bro would love it.
