Pros

- Great learning environment for working with a lot of different technologies at scale. - You can get away with doing nothing here for years... or you can work hard, learn a lot, and pivot to a top class company with a wealth of experience.

Cons

- Not once during my tenure at Homes did the business consult the developers for an effort estimate on a project and honor that estimate. The timelines were never based on reality, but the whims of management and external requirements. - Outside contractors were consistently brought in to try and make a project move along faster, despite the outcry from the developers. It always resulted in a ton of extra work: clean up contractor code, make it performant, train the contractors on how to test something... etc. The old analogy holds true: 9 women can't have a baby in a month. - The business does not seem to care about understanding the technology. This is highlighted in the fact that during the press runs for the latest iteration of the site, the search match functionality is referred to as "machine learning" and "artificial intelligence." It's not, it never has been, and it's embarrassing. - Pay is below market for the demanded skills. You can't have boutique requirements and with a sparse budget.

Thanks for taking the time to leave us feedback. Having been in many different positions within the organization, I can say I agree with some of the points you make. Like many companies, management has at times tried to accelerate development by trying to augment staff with contractors and such. Third parties can sometimes help, but they are no silver bullet, and come with an entire set of risks. We are focused on, and committed to helping give our talented tech teams the resources they need to get things done, and the voice to help spearhead change and improvements. Our senior leaders understand technology and associated processes much more now than ever, so it is an exciting time for us. We've come a long way in this last year, and are looking forward to the future. I also think it's a testament to the senior Dev leaders here that we do have so many marquee names constantly trying to recruit our team members. We do challenging work, with latest technology, and we will definitely continue to do so.

Pros

Money is good at first. People are amazing.

Cons

Leadership used to be great. Never seen a company go through this many changes this quickly. Good luck making money last your first year if you stay in the same role
