The few carry the many - Engineer Hodges Transportation Employee Review

Pros

There are a lot of hardworking engineers at NATC/HT however the majority of the groups do not live up to the precedent set by one. Many of the projects are high level, multi-million dollar for various DoD entities that give you great networking and exposure. Lots of fun projects/vehicles, great learning opportunities and some smart people in the VPE group.

Cons

The commute is horrible and will eventually beat you down. It's difficult to visualize a long-term career due to the small organizational structure (engineer- program manager- owner). Performance reviews and feedback are late to non-existent. Salary is low and benefits sub-par.

Pros

This is a family-run business. If you work here, you are part of the family. It is not a corporate environment. Every person's input matters. You will never do the same thing over and over again. You will use a lot of the skills that you ask "why did I learn this in school." You are able to see what you are doing impact the world around you, whether that is for commercial or military projects. You learn every day. I have learned contract language, government projects, commercial projects, range policies, and many more, even balancing tires. I am more fulfilled here than I have been at any other place. The Hodges care about your career development.

Cons

If you are the "it's not my job" type of person, you won't fit in here or succeed. It takes all hands on deck to operate a family business. You will go as far here as you want, so if you are negative, and don't want to jump in with both feet, you will have a negative experience.

Pros

Great people to work with

Cons

The road in to the company is poorly maintained and will break your car at some point.
