Pros

HiringThing had a great team and mission.

Cons

The company is not as transparent as they claim. Management does not like to be challenged. Managers who stick around are yes people. There is no salary transparency. Upper management have been with the company for years. All they care about is keeping their jobs. They want to keep traveling and live their lives. They don't want to be challenged or help anyone but themselves succeed. In the end, they are not the family they claim. This was a heartbreaking experience. They are famous for being remote. But they mainly hire other white geeks from Oregon. It's weird.

Pros

- Wonderful people to work with - Flexible work hours - Decent pay for the market

Cons

- Direct management and top level management are not on the same page. They do not communicate with you if they have a problem with what you are working on. - Constantly shifting priorities, change expectations for projects, and are more focused on getting new features out fast than well done, making older code brittle, hard to work with and prone to issues. - No project managers means multiple bugs or features might be worked on at the same time duplicating work without the engineers knowing. - Single point of failure on one or two people being available to help with issues because of overly complex code that is never given the time needed to actually fix things. - If the company leaders feel like you are unneeded they will fire you for "performance" without any kind of previous communication or using tools to make sure a person aligns with expectations. You can have a great performance review and be fired a couple months later.
