Hertz - No work life balance - culture of fear - Area Manager Hertz Employee Review

Pros

There are still some older employee's in critical roles that care. They make employment palatable for a while. Opportunities for advance always come around when you are a top performer (I was) but you always have to relocate and move your family to a new home and school district and you work more seemingly with each advancement step you take.

Cons

No work life balance. Development is crude and self driven through computer modules with very poor mentoring if any at all. Senior management drives initiatives through fear. Initiatives for cost savings are ridiculous. They consistently shut down all spending in the 3rd & 4th quarters annually and sometimes in the 2nd quarter. You find out after the fact it was an initiative to drive a profit in one segment of the business as a dog-and-pony show for investor management. Customer focus and satisfaction is demanded while you cut all funding and have to justify any OT spent when you're trying to cover customer facing positions that impact company reputation, customer wait times, and operational efficiency. As an Area Manager in charge of 140+ direct employee's and a $15+M operation I had to take the time to email my General Manager who lived under the fear of their Region Vice President who lived under fear of the President of the America's to obtain approval to spend $120 to have enough employee's to at least have a presence at the customer rental counter. Ridiculous procedures and micro management through fear. Decided to leave to better my quality of life, hours worked(70+every week), career development, find a company with integrity to live their mission, vision, and values. Such a joke to see Hertz lists work life balance as a benefit in their job postings when it was one of the driving factors why I left. Oh yeah, don't forget HR is useless. When you speak to your representative about your experience and how you want to further develop your skill set, learn, and grow they direct you to their computer module training or to speak to your GM who you've already gone to and feel bad for as they are to overworked and never find time to spend a day to teach you new skills. Sorry just not a good place to work.

Pros

Great place to work in tandem with other professionals in your trade, always had a feeling of "family" working alongside my peers. We come together when times are tough, this is very rewarding,

Cons

The current economic and geopolitical spectrum have been proving a challenge to this industry as a whole, thankfully we are a resilient outfit with the best people at the helm.

Pros

It's a job in a bad economy. Decent vacation time but no money to go anywhere.

Cons

Favoritism, nepotism. We used to get profit sharing now it goes wherever it goes. New commission structure is bad.Dollar thrifty and hertz are all one yet hertz does all dollars work while they make the money and close whenever they want. Customers are always aggressive and rude.sick time is unrealistic. If you have any condition you have to get fmla and the company they use always refuse it. ,yet somehow the people that aren't sick are always on fmla.
