Pros

Management is very honest with the state of the company and has been willing to make sacrifices to ensure that we haven't had to let anyone go during this SARS-CoV-2/COVID-19 pandemic. We're encouraged to make sure we take care of ourselves and our families and concessions have been made so that we have the time for that. Management tries hard to make sure we're given everything we need to be able to do our work and do it well and we are encouraged to stay continuous learners. It helps to make this a career and not just a job, or just over broke, to know they really do care about their team members. Like others have said it makes easy to not just feel like employee number 50239.

Cons

Due to the state of the world, and the concessions mentioned in the pros, we are understaffed and overworked. Everyone is stressed and it does come out in middle management as it rolls down hill. As at least one other person has said it's disheartening to see employees put on performance review after performance review and then do the bare minimum to not get fired. The rest of us then have to pick up the slack. Those people get their hands held and those of us who are good performers, while well compensated, get somewhat ignored because they know we'll still come in and get the job done. Yes, I realize these 2 ideas are somewhat contradictory but the second does add to the stress of the first.

Health Catalyst Response

Thank you for your feedback and for the perspectives you shared. Thank you also for over 5 years of contribution to Health Catalyst! I'm glad to hear that you feel supported at Health Catalyst, and that we care about you and your colleagues. That is certainly how I feel. Thank you also for the feedback in areas for improvement -- and I recognize how team members are feeling stretched right now in particular. It is a constant challenge for us to try to balance team member sustainability with financial sustainability, and while we strive to find that right balance, it is elusive and we constantly need to be assessing how we're doing there. I also appreciate the feedback regarding performance management -- certainly feedback we've heard multiple times. We will be working to improve here and embedding some additional emphasis in our manager training as we enter the 2021 planning process this fall. Thank you again for your many years of contribution and dedication to the company. Best, Dan

Pros

Great Talent & Culture: The people here are highly capable, collaborative, and committed to helping each other succeed. The partnership between onshore and offshore teams works well and is a real strength. There’s a culture of grit and stability that has helped the company navigate multiple major transitions over the years. Mission-Critical Engineering: The work involves complex data infrastructure that requires deep technical expertise. It can be demanding, but seeing these systems run successfully and support real-world operations is consistently rewarding.

Cons

Wage Compression and Retention Risk: Compensation for tenured and high-performing staff has not kept pace with the market for specialized data engineering and support leadership. In practice, tenure can feel undervalued or even penalized. This creates risk around losing institutional knowledge and operational continuity. Stagnant Career Progression: Contrary to stated expectations, strong performance ratings do not consistently translate into meaningful, market-aligned compensation growth. The process of how compensation is benchmarked lacks clarity in practice, obscuring how compensation decisions are made and what is required to advance.
