Pros

It is a good stepping stone for new grads. to gain office experience. Mostly new grads are hired because they know they do not have enough work experience to know they are being taking advantage of. It is their first job, so they do not know how to stand up for themselves or understand what is appropriate and what is not. Another positive, You will know better for your next job what you do not want in your new job and what are considered to be an appropriate and professional environment.

Cons

This is a family business. Managements are unappreciative to their short or long term employees. It doesn't matter if you work there for 5, 10 or 20 years. You are replaceable. There is no structure. If you ever want a promotion, salary increase or even a minimum of 3% inflation increase, don't expect you will automatically be rewarded for excellent work performance after the 2nd, 5th+ years. There are no fix performance review. No set path for career advancement. They may promise you Health Insurance, but don't hold your breathe. They will take years to get it and that's after consistent reminders. No job descriptions given to you, and if you do get lucky and receive one, it is pointless. They pile work after work that was meant to be a favor at first and somehow be a part of your permanent responsibilities without notice, appreciation or acknowledgment. You wanted to be a team player by always lending your hand doing extra work when asked, however, when your main work load are not completed as effective as it should be, they make you feel as if you were just being "lazy". If you do an excellent job balancing with the continued favors that somehow became your responsibilities while doing your main responsibilities, Managements will think you have a lot of free time in your hands and will pile more work load on you. You will start with a higher salary even though you have the same title or get promoted as soon as you start simply by being a family member or family friends circle. Unqualified supervisors are managing programs that they don't have experiences or knowledge of. The Managements are not knowledgeable on regulations. You will need to google and contact appropriate outside representatives to provide the answer for you. When you report back your findings, they do not appreciate the fact that you just helped them from getting into trouble or losing money for not following the regulations or completing necessary procedures. If you are not part of the family or family friends network, you will never be seen as a valuable employee. Certain people in the families and family friends network will pretend to do work, have minimum knowledge about the programs they are supervising and take all the credit from the hard working employee. Not only that, certain individual will talk behind your back during family outings and dinners, accusing outside employees are doing everything wrong. Managements would believe them without hearing the employees side of the story. They will set "attack meetings" where few managements would gain up on you. You will feel completely blind sided. Then you will explained the truth about the situation. They will not apologize for it, instead, continue with many more "attack meetings". An endless vicious cycle. You want to make it work by explaining and clarifying it but you realized that there is no fair winning here. They will make it so unbearable to the point that they squeeze you out of there. You learned that the Managements will never understand and believe your side of stories unless you are in the network of families and family friends. Even with high retention, they don't make attempts for improvements. They hire international Employees, opt or F1 students because they know they will be stuck working there. They will promise to help you apply for your Green card and work visa but they will take a long time (years) to keep you captive in their work place.
