Pros

The 25% staff discount and friendly colleagues.

Cons

Rosters are done poorly with no consideration of their employees work life - They will give you closing shifts then the next day, you will have an opening shifts. They say rosters are done 4 weeks in advanced - lies! They are usually done at least 1 week in advanced. Sometimes if managers actually do their jobs properly, it will be up 2-3 weeks in advanced. So it’s hard to plan around work if that’s the case. Poor management at the workplace - Lots of favouritism at the workplace. Every employee is treated differently. If managers don’t like you, they will treat you like crap. Only their favourite employees are treated with respect and fairly. Not only this, favouritism also comes in play when it comes to hourly rotation - stock room and cash registers should be done professionally and shared amongst employees. Always the same people in stock room and cash registers. The managers at this workplace sees mental health and physical well-being as a joke. They act as if they care about their employees - they really don’t. They will accuse and guilt trip staffs for being sick or late. Managers take their employees feedback personally, they don’t take it as a way to improve the workplace and themselves. They will just ignore it. During employees exit interviews and their PEP surveys, managers still don’t take their feedback into consideration. Unfortunately, taking any sort of annual leave at H&M is quite difficult. Even applying months advanced, managers somehow “forget” that you need it off despite approving it months ago. Employees have to constantly remind them before rosters are up to be taken off particular days. Also, asking for annual leave on a weekend will usually be rejected- rarely it’s approved. They will only approve it for important events. Which usually results in their employees calling in sick on weekends. Managers should also be training their new staffs rather than new staffs seeking other employees for help. Staffs are not well trained at this store. New staffs have to rely on the old staff who also relies on the older staff as there isn’t sufficient training. Manager expects you to know everything. There’s a lack of communication in the store. Every morning, there’s a team meeting with updated news and information. Only the employees that open will be informed of these. Managers should go around informing staffs that start later in the day. The work environment is quite awful - it gets quite hot working when you’re on the floor even on the coldest day in winter. They need to get their lights fixed. Both staffs and customers complain about how uncomfortable the heat is. Employees are left to take lots of water breaks because of it. The stock room is quite dusty to the point that it will make their employees sneeze and cough. It is also quite dangerous in the stock room. There will be rails, visuals accessories, metal bars and hooks, stock totes everywhere - makes it hard for employees to walk around and do work. Had resulted in their employees getting lots of cuts and bruises.

Pros

Benefits even for part-timers is a huge win! Sick leave, vacation, and community days. Nice management and really friendly coworkers. Decent employee discount. Diverse and welcoming environment.

Cons

Very stressful work environment considering the low pay. Poorly managed and operated. They clearly try to run lean and do as much work with as few people as possible. Very unprofessional overall and a lot of greenwashing.
