Pros

One of the best things about working here is that I can see a need / fill a need. I love that my job changes, its not the same work over and over again. If I see something that I could help with, I have the freedom to either solve it or collaborate with others to bring my ideas in. I came from a job where I was micromanaged, down to having to alert I was heading for the bathroom or at the fax machine. While there are some metrics to be accountable for here at Guru, I have plenty of freedom to set my own day with the tasks I want to tackle. We do client based projects, the clients want to know what they are getting for their money, and we frequently switch between projects. So it doesn't seem unreasonable to me to have to account for the time and activities on each project. I love my job when I'm here and I love being home when I'm there. Its so refreshing to me to not get this sense of dread on Sunday nights, looking ahead to the workweek. I'm excited about the challenges and opportunities this company provides. The management here is really great. They do care about me and giving me the opportunity to learn, both from my work and their example. The owner might have his quirks, but I feel like we are a company full of quirky personalities. He certainly has shown me over time that he cares about my well being and providing a great place to work. I have learned a lot about dealing fairly with customers/employees, what to be as a leader, and skills that have allowed me to grow by watching the owner. Sometimes I think he is too easy-going.

Cons

I tend to start later in the day and stay later at night. There are more people here at 6 pm than at 10 am. So sometimes its hard to leave because work is still churning in the evening. But its also a personal choice, because I'm feeling so good about getting work done! There isn't a strong management handle in day to day so sometimes things get a little too relaxed. Some people take advantage of this and it can be frustrating to be on their team and see them not always getting enough done. This is more rare, since so many of us love our work and believe in what we are doing and feel passionate about it. There are a lot of hard working, dedicated people here.

Pros

Small but not too small. Management is on your side. Can work remote on Mondays and Fridays. Lots of different projects to work on, web and mobile, small and global. Ambitious, keeps up with the times.

Cons

Contractor organization -- get ready to log your hours in detail. Things fluctuate. If learning new software or onboarding to new projects every few months is difficult for you, Guru won't work.
