Pros
I freelance as a software engineer and signed up w Gun in 2019 - so far I have interviewed for about fifteen jobs and gotten three. One of the gigs they hired myself and another dev so I never actually billed any hours. But I'm still working on one project that started in 2019. If you are new to freelancing, want to get some side work or already a pro and need some projects Gun works fairly well. If you are in design or product management you won't see many gigs on Gun, so maybe better to try another platform. Don't expect to get work right away but if you keep applying you will land something. Payment is on time with net 30 terms, so you get paid 4 weeks out from each week that you bill hours for. Communications through Slack and lots of helpful Gun staffers take care of posting gigs and answering questions. In terms of rates, you can charge as much as you want but job posts almost always have a ceiling based on the client's budget. I have been able to make pretty close to my rate for clients I get on my own, so it has worked for me.
Cons
Interview and application process used to be a total black box but has gotten a lot better. You don't necessarily get any feedback when you interview and aren't selected - that's on my wish list.
