Great pay and benefits; unrealistic deadlines and stress; possible future layoffs - Engineer Gulfstream Employee Review

Pros

Pay is usually the best compared to majority of companies. Sometimes, even overtime is paid (as straight time) for exempt employees! Benefits are pretty good too (in paper): such as 4-10 work weeks, separate sick days (which Gulfstream calls PTO, and is separate from vacation), 6% match for 401k, etc. Having a Chick-fil-a and cafeteria in the main campus is good. Aircraft launch events and family day are pretty elaborate.

Cons

Both sales and upper management set very unrealistic deadlines for engineers, thus creating a lot of stress, potential for errors and eliminating the benefits such as Friday offs. Employees (even new ones) are asked by middle and lower management, who get pressure from upper management, to work around 55 hours/week (which is still not enough for the deadlines presented). While Gulfstream is on a massive hiring drive to solve this issue, this could also mean massive layoffs once the brunt of the work is done: this has happened before. Micromanagement seems to be inevitable as a result of aggressive deadlines. The promise of good work-life balance is slowly fading away.

Pros

-Work in an air conditioned hangar! -All the tools and support needed to do the job -Excellent training available -Good safety culture -Fairly easy work -Lots of opportunities to grow

Cons

Big corporate politics at times. Some people just love to point fingers. Rules that are very excessive due to incompetence, instead of just firing morons.
