Pros

More than 10 years of working for this company i've seen great changes...mostly all for the worst. But i've made some great friends, had great laughs, and got to enjoy every musical instrument you could imagine. This company at least paid my bills - while I have been a multi-million dollar salesperson and paid all the management salaries/bonuses and made sure the lights stayed on.

Cons

There isn't really a "good" place to start. Once upon a time this company actually had a code of ethics. Morals. Standards. Slowly but surely it all blistered away and turned into a wasteland of management crushing salespeople's morale to make sales. Overmanagement. Mismanagement. Lack of communication, and most importantly; changing sales metrics to make it near impossible to make a living. For years if you sold well, you could make decent money. Now you have to sell an absolutely ASTRONOMICAL amount to make decent money. Working for GC isn't worth it. It's insulting, and this company know it. To add insult to injury, the store managers have been instructed to cut salespeople hours in order to make you sell less. Really smart - it's about like thinking you can cut your legs off to meet your weight loss goals.

Pros

Employee discounts are the biggest reason why people work here, as the discount is really good.

Cons

Your experience working at Guitar Center will largely depend on which store you work at. Some stores have a good management team and employees and are fun to work at. But a lot of stores do not have a qualified management team and they have a staff that is not fun to work with. My location needed a new store manager and instead of promoting the ops manager who knew the store better than anyone else and was with the company for 15+ years working at multiple locations, corporate instead promoted a customer service lead who had been with the company less than 2 years and didn't have management experience. These are the people that corporate decides so often to run their stores.
