A Terrible Experience — Stay Away - Associate Guidepoint Employee Review

Pros

There are no pros to working here

Cons

As another reviewer put it, Guidepoint operates like it’s stuck in the 80s. As an associate I witnessed male managers (Team Leads and above) hit on younger Associates and RMs, going so far as to have them fired for rejecting their advances. Speaking of management, no one in those positions got there because of any skill set (though to be clear, you don’t need to be smart to succeed here), but because of tenure. They set unrealistic and unethical expectations where behavior that would get you fired at any other company is rewarded. You sit at a computer all day badgering people to take calls, often giving away your own personal information in the process, and at the last moment a client can cancel a project. They track every email you send, every phone call you make, and will fire you without warning if they think you aren’t doing enough. Moreover, the entire office can see how well you’ve “performed,” adding an unnecessary dimension of competitiveness and discourages the kind of team thinking that would actually engender positive results for the entire firm. They don’t care about development, they only care about paying advisors as little as possible, and in many cases not paying them at all, and overcharging big consulting and investment firm clients for access to a shoddy service. I would also like to address the reviewer who wrote the August 21, 2020 review, who I believe is a recruiter. First of all, get your terminology straight; this is not a high margin business. Second, the alternative data portion is not useful in any way; it’s just statistics taken from industry reports (an advisor I spoke to told me this). Third, this is not an investment bank, there is no deal flow. This is effectively the set of Workaholics. I was fortunate enough to be given another opportunity in another industry in another city, but I would implore anyone who is weighing an offer from Guidepoint to decline it and look elsewhere, for the sake of their own professional development and careers.

Pros

the only pros are the salary and two hybrid days

Cons

Do not take a job with Guidepoint, even if you were a strong student in college and consider yourself a hard worker. The project managers are fine, but the team leads are awful. You won’t learn any tangible skills; the work largely consists of reaching out to people on LinkedIn for hours on end. On top of that, they will let people go very easily. Stay away from this company.
