Pros

Groth is a good company for beginners in the field of architecture. They take good care of their interns, and seem to have a path in place to grow their workers from interns up to project technicians. They also partake in their community in various ways which I enjoyed.

Cons

If you're not an intern, or didn't start as an intern here, I don't think it will be a good fit for you. The communication between workers and management were severely lacking, and I was quite disappointed by management in general. Responses from managers were inconsistent, often favoring certain workers, while others were left waiting for answers for extended periods. This led to frustration and incomplete work due to the lack of timely communication. The frequent switching between the different sections of architecture without adequate support resulted in repeated mistakes and inefficiencies. The workplace culture was unprofessional, and coworkers had a general lack of respect for boundaries. Groth also SIGNIFICANTLY underpays its employees and is combative when it's brought up. There is poor management of employee time and workload distribution, making it difficult to feel valued and supported in the workplace. HR was overworked, underpaid, and rude, resulting in a space in which we could not voice concerns.

Pros

Excellent company reputation. Caring and empathetic employees. You get the sense that your coworkers really want the best for you, the company, and the clients.

Cons

Owner was severely disconnected from the day to day challenges. Wanted maximimum work for minimum pay and appreciation. One partner imparticular behaves as if he is better than everyone else. Religious culture and customer base can feel rigid and exclusive.

Pros

A number of very talented, knowledgeable, and capable staff. Great place to learn for those who are new to the industry or mid-way. Makes an effort to continuously improve on drafting and design standards (staff lead initiative). Project portfolio continues to expand and diversify, offering a wide range of project types. Maintains a number of large and repeat clients due to exceptional service.

Cons

Risk of getting stuck in one phase of a project or task due to lack of resources to branch out. Owner pays under the market rate with no effort to bring existing employees up to standards (or perhaps only certain employees, favoritism suspected). Emotionally driven/bias approach to compensation, reviews, and resignations. No interest or future intentions to implement remote/hybrid policy of any kind.
