My experience volunteering in China this summer through Gotoco has been phenomenal. The program was very well structured and I was provided with a lot of assistance from the Gotoco and the program itself before the program started, during the duration of the program, and after the program ended. The program I was placed in had many other Gotocoers so I was able to make a unique group of friends to travel through China with me even after the program ended! This opportunity allows participants to gain more teaching experience in different settings, boost their confidence, and improve their communication skills in a safe and protecting environment while also acquiring a useful TEFL certificate. The program I was in provided each Gotocoer a Chinese teaching assistant who was of similar age and could communicate in both Mandarin and English so it was easy to navigate the classroom and China as well as converse to learn more about the Chinese culture!
