Their response to COVID19 was abysmal and put employees at risk for seemingly no reason. Leadership was heard saying everything from "we lead from facts" as a means to deny the severity of COVID even through April and force people to come into the office even when it was blatantly unsafe. They also retaliated against employees who requested to work from home, even though they stated that they would leave it up to supervisors. Company President axed a lot of those requests even when supervisors approved and eventually axed those employees as well. Many employees were concerned about it and this was reflected in a survey that came out in late April, but most would not speak up because they didn't want to be fired. Leadership said that they would not shut down the tightly packed office until the government forced them to, despite handing out expensive equipment to allow employees to work from home. Emailed correspondence from them stated a lot of troubling things, but in person they would announce that they weren't going to change their practices because they "lead from facts", citing sources that were out of date well into April. They also stated that they wanted to use it as an opportunity to corner the market, not to innovate practices to keep employees safe. That if they kept people in the office, it gave them a chance to "get a leg up on competition."
They do a lot of superficial employee engagement - big parties, lots of alcohol... but you're never allowed a plus one which seems sort of cult-y and weird. They will bully you into participating in events and they do not have time for employees who are quiet or are introverts. If you are either of those, this company is not for you, no matter your department.
There are several really great supervisors and managers at this company... but the vibe from the top is very old school and becoming stricter all the time in an age when companies who innovate and evolve are thriving. Not the kind of company that is going to be flexible around your needs. That's not what they're about, regardless of the hours you work or the output you produce. At the end of the day it doesn't matter - you either are a go-getter in your 20's who they can underpay, or you are expendable. Find somewhere else to work where you are valued.
