Pros
- Cheerful farm environment
- A good weekend job for college students
- If you are someone who enjoys doing different jobs every day and is up for anything, this role is for you
- Free tickets
- 20% off discount
- A few weeks' notice with shift rota and a decent amount of shifts, especially if you work weekdays
Cons
- Zero hour contract, not the best pay
- General assistant is a vague role title for the jobs you will have to do. Expect a lot of cleaning, mostly in the soft play and toilet checks.
- The soft play is a main part of this role, meaning you are likely to be spending 9-5 in there most days if you are a general. This includes a lot of cleaning and standing around waiting to clean up after customers. There are a lot of rules the customers have to follow, so you will need to be on your feet 24/7. This was personally the reason I left this job; I was being placed there most days, and it's very exhausting.
- Prepare to stay until 6 during term time, as one general has to stay longer to close the soft play due to after-school sessions.
- You don't know where you will be placed until the meeting in the morning, which means you can't prepare for being outside or indoors. Not helpful during the winter months.
- No shift pattern other than 9-5 unless you ask especially.
- 'General Assistant' is just code for being a spare body; you get trained on most roles on the farm so you can step in if needed.
- Management certainly has its favourites, witnessed some nasty comments by coworkers that they did nothing about, even after being reported several times.
- Cleaning, cleaning and more cleaning.
