Pros

Gibson provides a unique opportunity to engage with teams across all levels of the organization, including executive leadership. The pace of growth here is exceptional; what you gain in one year often surpasses what other companies offer in five. Frequent travel is part of the experience, which may or may not suit your preferences, but the upside is that you retain all travel rewards. With smart planning, this can translate into nearly free personal vacations. The culture is also highly collaborative, where the best ideas win. If you propose a better approach, your voice will be heard.

Cons

The company operates with a strong insider-driven culture. Those who are well-connected and favored tend to advance, while others may struggle to find opportunities for growth. Unfortunately, this dynamic has also led to concerning behavior among some members of upper management, particularly toward younger female employees. With no formal HR department in place, employees facing inappropriate conduct are often left with limited recourse. You can either tolerate the situation or leave. Communication from executive leadership is notably poor. Updates are rarely direct and often trickle down informally through favored circles, creating confusion and inconsistency. Recently, the company underwent significant layoffs due to a lack of business, despite months of assurances that such actions were not on the table. Several affected employees were new parents, let go without notice or severance. While the company does offer high levels of exposure and responsibility, it often comes without adequate support. New graduates have been placed on complex projects with little preparation, and when they sought guidance, they were met with criticism rather than coaching. The expectation to perform without training or mentorship has created a challenging environment for many.

Pros

Learn a lot. They call poor management and training “drinking from the firehose” which is a good skill to learn to do in consulting. You will often have to keep a level head in horrible situations which is also a really good skill to master, Gibson will test that The travel can be hard on you as well, but it’s in general much better travel than what you would get other places. Some really cool locations it’s just too much expected at times, which is fine and a part of the job.

Cons

Everything about the culture was horrendous. Fratty old boy company with completely useless managers and partners that were solely there because they were old/related/friends with one of the managing partners Gibsons’ claim to fame is something they call the 11 gate. It’s available on the internet to read if you’re curious what your lively hood depends on. The managing partner touts it as the best consulting process to hit the market. In practice, and outside of his head it’s way overpriced, extremely extremely outdated, and way too overinvolved for most firms outside of strictly private equity. Outside of horrible company culture and partners and managers ruining their own reputation with how they treat women and cheat on their wives during business trips, this 11 gate process is really what has led to the company going under 4 other times. And the managing partner is far too stubborn and out of touch to ever make any kind of change. I would highly highly recommend taking a different offer if given the opportunity
