Pros

•The Job is very basic and easy to understand for most tasks and it's possible to quickly become fast at the work if you stay focused and are open to criticism and want to learn. •If you do what is asked of you and do it well, you can very quickly move up in pay. If they (your boss/bosses) say that they will move you up when you do your work well, they mean it, and actually follow through with that promise. I've been in many blue collar jobs that promise growth, but toss you to the gutter the moment you make one or two mistakes. •The work is very easy and requires basic math skills; middle-high school type of stuff. If you know how to read a tape measure and use basic hand and power tools, you'll be able to adapt to the work no problem. •Given the nature of the job, there's very likely to be plenty of job security with no shortage of work in the near or distant future.

Cons

• Very physical labor intensive. If you're not used to carrying 30-70lbs objects/materials on a regular basis, being on your feet all day, squatting, and walking many flights of stairs while carrying heavy or awkward things, it'll be rough. If you're out of shape, it will be very unpleasant at the start. •The job is mostly indoors, however, many jobsites do not have installed/functioning A/C systems, so if you're in the blazing hot summer, or chilling winter, you're probably gonna be a little uncomfortable while you're working a big sweat. •This is a bit of a double edged sword, but the foreman is very in-your-face and rude (for the commercial side of the business), which for many would be something insufferable to deal with. If you're the type with sensitive feelings, they're gonna get hurt really fast working under him. However...his department usually has the best production in that branch of the company. He's an effective leader that is very much capable of doing the work himself better than everyone else. So if he calls you out for doing a poor job, he's usually right. •Work is over when the job is done. So, since we ride in commercial work vans and not our own vehicles, you're essentially pinned to the job for as long as it takes or however fast you can work. But since you're often working with others, not everyone tends to work at 100% every day, and it can get a bit monotonous at times. Don't plan personal things early in the afternoon, or you'll be disappointed most of the time. Not all jobsites are close by. You could drive as far as 1-2.5 hours away from the shop . Travel times are also dependent on traffic.

Pros

- The work isn't difficult to perform. It's just a matter of putting in the effort to do it fast and do it well. - Decent competitive for the minimum wage presented by many other businesses. - Secure job sector in construction. - Helps build up personal skills with tools that can be applied at home or with personal projects at home if you do that sort of thing.

Cons

- Inconsistent work hours; Such is the nature of construction work, however, when the work is slow, it tends to be slow for a couple of months at a time. However, the daily inconsistency on a week to week basis makes it next to impossible to schedule other things after your work day finishes unless it's a late afternoon/night activity. No after work doctor appointments. - If you need need time off work for a day or simply need to come into work a few hours late, you can't just take a few hours off, you need to take the whole day off. - Taking time off work REQUIRES you to use any PTO you have accrued, regardless of whether you'd like to or not, and the PTO is extremely slow to build up. You earn about 2 hours a week or so, and this is consistent up to 3 years employed or possibly more. - While the work is mostly done indoors, many projects do not have actively working AC or Heat depending on the time of year, so naturally an uncomfortable work environment is common. - Very fast paced work environment, so unless you're able to learn well and fast, you'll feel a lot of pressure to continue outputting a lot of production.
