Pros

Nice company to work for, growth mindset, always looking to improve. Can build connections with your students

Cons

Getting pay raises takes quite a while. Awkward hours for some (after-school/evening only). No breaks

Pros

I love working here at Genie Academy. There is immense support and encouragement from managers, and on top of that, they are just genuinely kind people. The one-hour class schedule allows for fun and balanced classes, and the students and parents are a pleasure to interact with. My favorite part about this job is that if you put in hard work, you will see it pay off.

Cons

Continuous learning means that there are always opportunities to adjust your teaching methods or develop new strategies to face challenges. This job encourages thinking outside the box to help each individual student in the way that works best for them!

Pros

The kids are great— the children are always the best part of working in education.

Cons

Management is absent. Many days our location literally did not have a manager in the building (a massive safety issue when kids were coming in and out during transition times). In retrospect I shudder to think of what massive safety oversights there were overall; especially during pickup— there was no “double check” of parent IDs and we were often told to let kids go with another parent, without any ID check. At the time, it seemed normal. Now, looking back— who okayed this?! Training was somehow simultaneously condescending (“How do you not know this?”) and massively time-consuming, with total lack of support afterward. Imagine like a massive infodump and then being left on a deserted island. SMH. This is not a tutoring job; you will be managing a class of 6 or more children of multiple grade levels, without any training on the specific material. And the material? It’s workbooks that were produced by the company, which were often riddled with typos or confusing questions, with no answer key provided to parents— so expect a LOT of confusion from parents who are invested in their child’s success. There is so much more I could say but this is just a horrible place to work— I would not recommend it to anyone!
