Pros

None, working here was that horrible! Towards the end of my employment I could barely drag myself into work because of the awful, terrible environment that is called Gauntlett & associates. The office is DEAD silent for 10 hours a day and is only occasionally filled with David's wrath spewing tantrums that happen on a daily basis when something does not go exactly his way.

Cons

Everything. But in particular DAVID GAUNTLETT, the managing owner who will ensure your daily life is living hell. He is the sole reason I left the Firm and ran as far as I could from this office. I pray that no one ever has to work in an environment with the verbal abuse that David spews on a daily basis. Whether you are an Attorney, in marketing, or an assistant, David will belittle you to ensure you feel stupid and useless over and over again until you quit like the rest of the staff. When I was an employee alone I saw about 5 people come in and out within a few months span given the horrible working environment. Candidates get hired and quickly quit within days once they realize how excruciating it is to work with David. Take heed to my review and the many others that have said to not even consider working at Gauntlett & Associates. His business model is failing and so is his mental sanity. Stay far, far away.

Proficient employees regularly receive full recognition of their time because they have mastered proper billing techniques and procure skills to produce quality work product that can be billed to clients. Indeed, all our present attorneys have mastered the art of recording virtually seamless time. Creating client value is a primary focus in our practice.

Pros

This is a small office in a niche practice area. It is an interesting and complex practice and as an associate you will be responsible for researching novel arguments and putting together intricate motions. The arguments (and general practice area) are very nuanced and require a lot of attention to detail, which will absolutely be expected of you. It is a good opportunity to learn a lot of substantive law and refine your motion drafting skills, which is absolutely an asset at bigger firms should you venture that way later down the line. The support staff is friendly and helpful. You may also have the opportunity to do some meaningful trial work. When I was there, I drafted a motion for summary judgment in a patent infringement case; the motion was granted and the patent on which the client was being sued invalidated. Strong intellect, working habits, and thick skin are all highly valued at this office. Due to the nature of the practice, not much discovery work (a plus in my view!). I was given a very generous letter of recommendation when I left--so much so that my subsequent employer commented that the letter was really, really complimentary.

Cons

This can be a very, very demanding job. And you do need a thick skin. If you don't have one, be prepared to work on it, or you probably won't last long. That said, I found that process to serve me very well later down the line - as an attorney you are inevitably going to have to deal with difficult people and situations, and the earlier you can learn to navigate that, the better.
