Pros
- Work at the heart of the art world, exposure to significant art pieces - Networking
Cons
- Toxic work environment; interns are constantly mistreated and people don't bother to learn their names - Deliberate miscommunication as employees maintain secrecy about what they are working on and oftentimes one department will have no idea about what is going on within the gallery. - Some interns and employees cried during my work experience because of the directors - You will be completing mind-numbing tasks such as tidying pantries, moving books, and stapling sheets, all while being rushed to do these - Tasks are often infuriating: interns had to buy birthday cards, tidy snacks in the kitchen, and handle the directors' personal tasks, such as Zara returns. - Employees will not talk to interns in person, they will only communicate via email with them and will show visible annoyance if you try to talk to them in person - Interns are rushed to complete meaningless tasks which are labelled as 'urgent' - An intern developed a disk hernia in her back while I was working from moving heavy boxes - Interns will work overtime with no compensation
