Pros

"In the Projects department, you'll get more opportunities to learn and develop. In O&M, most of the work is routine, and the plant environment has slurry and cow dung everywhere. H₂S gas leaks can also occur, which may cause health issues."

Cons

In my experience, the Projects department offers good learning opportunities, but the workload is very demanding. Employees in Projects often work more than 12 hours a day, and job security can be uncertain, as even senior positions like VPs and Project Managers may be replaced on short notice. The company expects a high level of output from its employees. If the company earns ₹100 from an employee, it expects ₹500 worth of work in return. Much of the workload falls on junior and lower-level staff, who work day and night, while senior management often enjoys better work-life balance. During appraisals and increments, lower-level employees do not always receive fair recognition for their contributions. Another major challenge is the design process. The GPS design team often releases drawings late, and a significant amount of work has to be executed at site without approved drawings. In many cases, nearly 25% of the work is completed at the site before the corresponding drawings are issued, with some drawings being released only after the work has already been completed.
