Pros

Mostly the colleagues that aren't management. As a developer it used to be a great place to work, there were a lot of opportunities for growth, but they have been declining. There is a lot of knowledge in the company, but a lot of people have been leaving, for a reason.

Cons

Where to begin. It used to be a great place to work, there were a lot of opportunities and usually you could be staffed on a project that you'd benefit from or had an interest in. This is something that is brought up as a perk in interviews, "being able to choose your own projects" but the reality is definitely not this. There also is no, or very little guidance, on what to train or learn while not on a project to prepare for your next project. The past year and a half or so has been very turbulent. Changes in management, and not for the better, and multiple rounds of layoffs that were done in very dubious ways, and not in a transparent manner, which is one of the core values that Futurice always preaches, which is pretty much non existent now. What is left is an uncoordinated management mess, with no direction for the employees. There does not seem to be a plan, especially on a local level, and it seems each branch is becoming more and more steered by Finland. It feels like Futurice is moving from being a vision driven consultancy that created impact, to a consultancy that is just selling hands and looking purely at utilization, and less caring about the employees and growth. The career progression opportunities look good on paper, but in reality are more dependent on how you get on with the people deciding your growth. Salaries are just below market rate.

Thank you for your feedback. It's no secret that the past little over a year has been very hard for us and it has resulted in challenges on several levels. We've preformed a retro, complete with comprehensive interviews, on how we handled the layoffs and related communications, uncovering areas to improve. We are of course working to make sure we are never again in this position, but the continuous improvement of our communications and leadership is a generally important area for us, too. Supporting our people in reaching their career, learning and growth goals is still a priority for us, but we acknowledge that it is harder when the business faces challenges. At times our focus has been, and in some cases still is, on improving our finances in all our markets so that we can continue to offer our people a good environment to work and grow. For this reason, among others, our long-term strategy as a company is to specifically move away from just selling hands.
