Pros

Flexible. Lots of travel, which I enjoyed.

Cons

Do your research before joining this company. Look at their business model, and ask current employees about management style and business organization. My experience with this company was not a good one. I was actively recruited away from my (successful, well-paying job) to come work for fusionZONE. The CEO himself is the one who both recruited and hired me. Three months later, “the Board” decided to “terminate my position” though I was repeatedly assured it was not performance-related. (Note: They also let their President and their marketing director go after just a few months, so this seems to be somewhat of a pattern. The CEO actually trash-talked one of them directly to me several weeks before that person was let go.) That’s my full disclosure before I give my comments on the cons, which are mostly that the company is run like an old-school car dealership. Zero training. I worked directly for the CEO my first 2 months yet couldn’t ever get ahold of him to save my life. Zero communication on expectations, projects, and the like. The company is extremely siloed. While I was pissed that my position was eliminated after having left my old job, I ultimately believe I dodged a bullet. No one seems to know what’s going on anywhere else in the company besides their own department. Questions are unanswered because no one knows the answer. This company has huge potential because they actually offer a good product, but from my experience, they don’t treat their people with respect and are very inconsiderate. Whether the following is actually true or not, here is my perception as well as the perception of at least several of my former co-workers: The CEO and COO (who happen to be husband and wife) are very boastful of their wealth, and they seem to be far more interested in which employees will party with them at events, conferences, and after work than which employees are best suited for a given position. The CEO had to ask me, a brand new employee, who a particular employee was — an employee who worked right down the hall from the CEO and had been working in the office for several months. It truly put a bad taste in my mouth.

Pros

Most of the coworkers were very friendly and had a strong sense of comrodery as a result. Fully remote work allows for some flexibility. Generally inclusive and diverse.

Cons

The clientele (car dealers) that you work with can at times be both incredibly rude and demanding. The pay for the amount of work and number of hours put in is far below industry average. (Especially for devs) Constant layoffs and downsizing makes it feel as if you're auditioning for your job daily. There's little to no opportunity for upward movement within the company. When it comes to upward mobility most people get a title change, and a small pay bump that barely accounts for the rise of inflation. The management system is generally lacking, using a "POD" system. Rather than report to the head of your respective department, you report to a manager that has been put in place above a group of people all from different departments. Reporting to and having your performance evaluated by someone who has little to no experience working in your area can be frustrating. Overall the auto industry as a whole is on the decline and Fusionzone is not immune to these effects. What was once an inviting company with promise of growth has degraded in to a husk of it's former self. Judging by the general decline in the last few years the best hope Fusionzone has of staying afloat is an acquisition from a former competitor.
