There is absolutely no future for staff at this company. Without revealing confidential information (this will soon be public information) the situation has become dire for all employees aside from the senior leadership.
Senior management are disconnected from the departments they direct to an almost criminal level. The poor strategies and reactionary projects that have been forced on staff due to this disconnect have seriously affected company success. Many new people were hired to capitalise on an increase in submissions during the pandemic. Obviously this was short-sighted, but this is classic Frontiers.
The situation has impacted the lower ranks the hardest – these ‘ranks’ in many cases filled with brilliant academics who understand science publishing like the back of their hand. People are struggling with morale as they feel powerless to make any real change. To add to this year’s difficulties, all company parties were cancelled (crucial opportunities for remote colleagues to meet). Despite this, money was easily found when leadership needed to relax in the alps for their own private event.
All of this has been the perfect recipe for ‘quiet quitting’, as evidenced by many of the other Glassdoor reviews. I feel for the employees hit the hardest and those with families and mortgages. I hope you all find a place to work that makes you proud every day.
