Very poor upper management in IT! - IT Worker Freeman Health System Employee Review

Pros

Good company if you work for the right department. Okay benefits. Decent PTO. Good retirement plan. Issues stated in "Cons" should not be reflected on the company itself. Freeman is a good company and I enjoyed working there, they just have lots of issues in the IT department. The IT department was a great place before 2014 until the new CIO arrived. Also...I have no personal issue with the CIO...he is just really bad at management and should be in a different field.

Cons

Upper management in IT is the worst I have seen! The CIO has no clue what he is doing or what his department supports. He knows just enough to BS the administrative staff. The "Support Center" Supervisor is horrible. Manages by bullying his staff, which apparently the CIO is in favor of. This individual has ran off approximately 90% of current staff when he was placed in the position and is still doing it...also, purposely causes issues with other IT departments! WARNING...If you are looking to get into IT...DO NOT GO HERE!!!

Pros

I loved my coworkers at Freeman; they're what got me through the long years I spent there. I learned a wide variety of skills in many different areas, mostly out of necessity, because we were so short-staffed. Everything else was a completely awful experience and I would not wish it on anyone.

Cons

The pay is abysmal and the benefits are sub-par. Nepotism is rampant here and it shows in the wide skill gaps between employees, especially between management and their direct reports. Upper management doesn't care about anything but their own personal gain, and they will throw anyone under the bus to further themselves, no matter their target's work ethic or performance history. Despite thorough documentation and willingness to own my actions, I was targeted repeatedly by my (incompetent) manager and chosen to be the fall guy for their mistakes. HR here is especially ruthless, although I've heard it's been a little bit better within the past couple of years. It's a 24/7 environment, so you'd think they'd incentivize you to stay with more positives.
