Pros

Big firm experience in a competitive work force. Great work experience for law school, looks great on resume, a great learning experience, hands on experience working directly underneath immigration attorneys, very nice office with everything you could need, comfortable, well accomplished and intelligent colleagues with liked minded characteristics.

Cons

The paralegals do all the work and are significantly underpaid for the amount of responsibilities they have everyday. You work very hard at this job, and you have to work very hard to keep your job. If you miss a deadline you won't make it here. It's a great experience and the work experience you need to be marketable to other big firms. Its hard, and challenging but if your willing to learn and okay with teaching yourself how to do things you will excel. It's a hard job but what you learn from it is really incredible. Its more of are you willing to work that hard, and are you competitive enough to keep working hard. Can you keep up with the heavy work load without stalling on your performance in efforts to avoid more work- a lot of the employees figure out how much they can get with doing a day and then they stop working hard after they figured out what the expectations are- because they do not see the value in working hard for the same pay. This is a dangerous way of thinking and you won't last here if you think that way. You have to work hard, do your work, and continue to work hard in high pressure and during stressful circumstances- and most importantly you have to be able to handle relations with high end cliental and cater to there needs. If your willing to work very hard without compromising your work ethic due to mental fatigue or a lack there of motivation you will do amazing with this employer. Its up to the employee to make a long lasting impression. This employer receives hundreds and hundred of applications and anyone who works here is very fortunate to be here. You have to work hard, because they can replace you easily with someone who will work harder they are an at will employer and start you off usually as a temporary employee to see if you can last. Its very competitive to say the least. You also have to be to figure things out on your own and teach yourself- high intelligence is absolutely necessary. CONS: tedious, hard, hard to do, long days and hours, requires an excessive amount of caffeine.

Pros

Decent overtime pay. I also had a decent training/onboarding experience, but this was not the norm.

Cons

Exploitative, 80+ hour work weeks, 2am messages from attorneys, burn-out model for paralegals and associates (scoop them up after BA or JD and overwork them until they quit), misrepresent case load during interview by 50% of total, low ceiling for non-attorney career advancement. Have an exit plan.
