Pros
1. Your work matters and your impact is felt immediately (that can be scary if you’re not a hard worker)! 2. Year over year the Bank hires increasingly better, more talented and hardworking individuals who want to solve problems and drive results. 3. Leadership owns mistakes and welcomes feedback. They know they’re not perfect and are regularly challenging themselves to see things from new perspectives and prioritize continuous improvement. 4. The company culture is comfortable, kind, and most people work to foster a drama-free work environment. 5. Pay is competitive. 6. Upward mobility potential is significant; this includes new roles opening each year (and often throughout the year) that are brand new to the organization. 7. The bank thinks outside of the box, hiring top talent from various industries, knowing top performers can learn just about anything to accomplish their goals. (This doesn’t mean they don’t value degrees and credentials, but they recognize those items don’t guarantee a person can actually perform well in their job). 8. You can gain more experience in one year at Fortis than what you’ll learn at other banks over an entire career (in some cases). 9. Parking/transportation stipends. 10. Great benefits.
Cons
This is more of a recommendation, depending on a candidate’s desire to work and/or have a work/life balance. The pace is fast, there are a lot of changes (in my opinion, most are for the better - when that’s not the case it’s because the company has extremely high goals and it’s not possible for any company to make all decisions perfectly), and the work can be demanding. This does not work for everyone, but if you’re an A-Player who can be flexible, very hard working, and get on board with the company’s vision - you’ll love it here.
