Don’t be Tempted by the Perks - Finance/Accounting Flexport Employee Review

Pros

“Unlimited” PTO and work from home, free lunch and snacks, 100% healthcare coverage

Cons

Favoritism and nepotism are rampant, leadership is grossly inexperienced, standard processes and controls are nonexistent, statistics are fabricated (based on inaccurate or imaginary data), training is laughable, and communication is fragmented to say the least. The “world class platform” they push is elementary at best. More time is spent fixing the numerous things that go wrong than fulfilling your job duties. (Sorry, there are no explicit job duties.) Even if you’re lucky enough to move up the ladder, true learning and career development will not happen here.

Thanks for your review and feedback. I'm sorry to hear that you feel like there is nepotism and favoritism - we believe in a merit based systems of progression and reward, so please confidentially reach out to your People business partner with your concern. We take these issues seriously. We are working hard to keep pace with current growth and we have seen higher than we'd like turnover on our finance team and that has been tough on the team. That's why we are filling 8 positions at the moment, to help us get caught up. https://www.flexport.com/careers/jobs/?department=Finance&location=. We are committed to our values, to growing our employees, to investing in L&D, career growth, diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging and to sharing the products of the companies success by making all employee shareholders. We more than doubled the size of the company in 2019 and your experiences are a function of that growth rather than the experience that we want employees to have - please reach out and connect and I'd be delighted to get more of your perspective. - Neil Davies

Pros

Lots of really smart and nice people at the company. The culture has improved a lot recently. There's a good amount of room to develop and jump on things that you might not be exposed to in other companies.

Cons

The company moves a little too fast at times and maybe overlooks things that are working well and don't necessarily need to be changed for "efficiency" at the risk of doing things incorrectly. It can be hard to move up in some departments. work/life balance varies a lot by team.
