Pros

The job is not that difficult. Merchandise comes in on pallets and the warehouse knows what each store needs instead of just sending random items. The customers seem to appreciate that the merchandise is affordable and interesting. My co-workers are friendly and have a “we’re all in this together” attitude. Comfortable uniforms. Employee discount is nice to have.

Cons

Corporate expects too many pallets to be finished in a morning with only allowing minimal staff. One pallet per employee would be more appropriate. Breakrooms are a joke. It’s a desk, two folding chairs, the smallest microwave and a mini fridge in a stockroom. Recovering is impossible. Customers TEAR UP the store to the point that after you recover one section you have to start all over because it’s a mess again. So much theft in the stores. Why the company allows self checkout is beyond my understanding. The stores management is much too young. My store manager, support lead and merchandise manager are all under 26 years old. They have no outside experience; they know nothing. So many apps and so many passwords. One app to see schedule, one to see paycheck and complete tasks. Passwords for these apps, another to clock in and another to get a register code. Then to top off the uselessness of the apps you can’t see what hours you have already worked so only way to check your hours is to be at the terminal in the store.

Pros

-20% discount -med, dental, vision benefits -20-ish minimum hours per week -genuinely can be a fun store to work in when run well

Cons

-store managers have little to no oversight and cross professional boundaries often - hr is ineffective, document everything yourself, report to the EEOC -growth opportunities in the store are very limited and they will lowball you no matter what you do or sacrifice -crazy turnover because the expectations are unrealistic store managers lie about pay budget to everyone -more likely to hire teens and students because they are easier to take advantage of for little pay, only needs adult for when teens and students cannot work (night shifts, school days) - nearby stores, especially if in a strip mall or shopping center, like tj maxx have higher base pay, better benefits, better security, and more hour availability
