Pros

There are great perks to working at FINE Magazine as an intern. First of all, they let you choose which field you want to be involved in. This means the magazine and you are mutually benefitted; you are learning what is valuable to you while the magazine is using the skills they taught you. You can choose to learn about events, social media marketing, editorial, graphic design, etc. It is a great experience and resume builder. Second, you get insight, an inside look into how a magazine comes to be. You get to play a part in the digital media and the print publication, which is really cool thing!

Cons

Although FINE Magazine's journalism interns are unpaid, they get writing credit, valuable training, and exposure to a reputable San Diego Magazine and how it impacts the community. The magazine has a great location as the office is in the Del Mar Plaza.

Pros

I worked here as an intern (remotely), and had a great time doing it. I got to write for sections I was actually interested in. The woman who I worked with was so nice, encouraging, and allowed me a lot of freedom with my writing. While I wrote mainly for their online content, I was offered a few articles in their physical magazine, which was awesome.

Cons

They don't pay their interns (like most places) but they did allow me to receive college credit for my time there.

Pros

Absolutely nothing, the owner will be nice to you at first, then allow his employees to bully you.

Cons

This company treats their freelance writers terribly!! They will tell you how horrible your work is and refuse to pay.....even though they use the articles IN FULL! The owner (AKA the "editor in chief") will just tell you they are going though a hard time financially and that most people would love to have their work published, paid or not. This company is COMPLETELY UNPROFESSIONAL!!!! They also have you race with 20 other freelance writers to be the first one finished with a particular article and they choose the best one....all others just rush to finish an article for nothing!
