Pros

1. The training is helpful for increasing your skills as a developer. 2. The job has some solid benefits, and a vested pension. If you stay here for the next 30 years and hit your company 401k matches, you can ride off into the Margaritaville sunset with a steady check coming your way until your last cheeseburger sends you to the morgue (in which case you will likely have a great insurance policy for your loved ones). 3. The job is relatively stable. They've been selling insurance for like 100 years man... it's not going anywhere. You'll learn all about the company's rich history in your corporate indoctrinat- I mean onboarding program. 4. The CEO was absolutely based. Has my utter respect. The man entered into the room with pure confidence and even took his mask off during a time when the company was mandating employees to wear masks. A total alpha. The studded rings on his fingers were almost as exuberant as his personality. It's likely that his pinky finger alone adorned my salary and bonus for the year. Cannot speak highly enough of this man. Jeans on Fridays :-) Taco Tuesdays :-) (not free but you can rely on tacos being there every Tuesday) They took me to lunch a couple times :-) (you guessed it, tacos!) Also, check out the ice cream shop "Blast" if you're living in town.

Cons

Bottom line: You can likely progress your career much faster elsewhere after working here for a year or two. Each year holds an insignificant rate of 3-5% per year. This does not cover inflation. Your effective purchasing power goes down each year mate. The devaluing of your time is made worse by the fact that promotions come with excess responsibility and longer hours to the point that your effective hourly rate remains relatively stagnant while your skills are increasing. My manager was great with flexibility, but many were not. For some of my colleagues, it was mandatory to be in your seat by 7am everyday (even after training). Remote work was not an option, or you'd have to fight for it at the very least. Many people spoke about putting in extra hours. The best talent frequently leaves (so I'm told) because it's kind of obvious that they can get better offers elsewhere. Culture was way too corporate for me. Fluorescent lighting, perfectly arranged cubicles where you'll experience sciatica for the next few decades (no amount of ergonomics training will spare you unless you get a standing desk), the occasional 15-minute morning breaks during which you will have awkward encounters with coworkers while filling your tasteless Keurig coffee cup, the weeks spent on reports that will barely get a glance, the hollow conversation... It's the quintessential corporate dystopia. It's like the movie Office Space in real life. It's ironically hilarious how well they hit the corporate dystopia archetype. You could work there for a year and pretend you're in a movie and it would probably be a lot of fun though.

Pros

Hands down, the best employment culture of any company I’ve worked for in my 25+ years practicing law. Federated is a true rarity - a company that genuinely lives its corporate values every day, in decisions both large and small. Leadership listens to employees with curiosity and a willingness to improve, not defensiveness or indifference. There’s a common refrain that if a company takes care of its employees, those employees will, in turn, take care of customers. I’ve never seen that philosophy embraced or executed as successfully as it is at Federated. Success is recognized and rewarded, teamwork - or “interdependence,” as we call it - is the norm, and challenges or setbacks are treated as opportunities for constructive feedback and growth. And that’s before even mentioning the outstanding compensation and benefits. I recommend Federated wholeheartedly and without reservation to friends and family.

Cons

Business formal dress code for more senior positions may be a bit antiquated.
