Pros
My co-workers are some of the most caring and compassionate people that I have ever known. They truly care about their patients and co-workers. I have heard many stories about the staff coming in on their days off to visit with their patients or developing a relationship with the family/patients outside of the hospital. Some of our frequent flyer's become family to us.
Cons
Since the LifePoint takeover, I have seen many things that have just broken my heart and made me even reconsider staying with the hospital. Little things that make us a small community hospital, have been taken away from patients because of now being a "for-profit" facility. We no longer provide items for patient care like razors. Patient's families have to bring in from home or purchase in the Gift Shop. The meal trays that we used to provide to the Infusion Center patients are no longer and the get only one cold sandwich brown bag, even if their treatments take hours. Our staff no longer have the time to offer to assist with bathing or brushing teeth. It's not because we don't want to, it's because of the cuts in staffing. Our patients are noticing... and that bothers us. It's now down to sometimes 18+ patients to only one tech and 5-6 patients per nurse. The nurse is doing her job, plus helping with the tech's job and only those who are stooling themselves are getting cleaned up.
