Pros

Sonosite deserves credit for creating and popularizing the POCUS category in healthcare.

Cons

The technology is outdated, and innovation has largely stalled. Many projects are poorly planned and consistently miss delivery timelines, sometimes by years. Compensation and benefits are well below market, especially given the expectations and workload. Leadership is highly unprofessional and lacks strategic vision. Decision-making often feels reactive and disconnected from reality. Promotions and opportunities are driven by personal relationships, not performance or impact, which is demoralizing for high performers. There is little genuine care for employees. Morale is low, and trust in leadership is weak. HR functions more as an extension of executive power than as employee support—often perceived as protecting leadership rather than people. Routine layoffs have become part of the culture, creating constant insecurity and fear, even among strong contributors.

Pros

Pros: • Reputable Products: High-quality offerings with strong customer satisfaction. • Earnings Potential: In territories with minimal restrictions, hitting sales targets is achievable with dedication and effort. However, thoroughly research territory limitations before accepting an offer. • Customer Retention: Reliable products and good customer service contribute to repeat business.

Cons

Cons: • Weak Leadership & Culture: Upper management operates within an entrenched “good ol’ boy” network, showing little trust in the sales force. Transparency is lacking, and the leadership style fosters a “put up or shut up” mentality. • Declining Competitive Edge • HR & Workplace Issues: The company tolerates inappropriate behavior from employees. • Health Insurance Delay: Coverage does not begin until the first of the following month. If you decide to join, consider negotiating a start date at the beginning of a month. • Unrealistic Quotas: Sales targets in some regions are illogical and do not account for historical performance. You may inherit unattainable quotas with no adjustments based on past achievements. • Go-to-Customer Model Issues: The company reassigned all outpatient facilities and small hospitals to the inside sales team without adjusting quotas for the outside sales force. As a result, all outside reps maintain identical quotas and base salaries despite significant discrepancies in sales potential. • Lack of Corporate Support: Both the inside and outside sales teams, along with middle management, receive minimal to no support from corporate leadership. Accountability issues persist, with leadership often shifting blame to the sales force when targets are not met. Before accepting a position, conduct thorough due diligence on the territory, quota expectations, and company culture to determine if the opportunity aligns with your long-term career goals.
