Pros

- Other younger staff so you have a great bond with colleagues - Some of the kids are amazing to work with and it is great seeing them grow - Great socials bring everyone together - Consistent training throughout the year - Good managers who listen to your concerns - Group chat makes finding cover or swapping a shift very easy and gives flexible working times - Can get overtime very easily especially in the holidays

Cons

- PAY: after having worked there for over 2 years the pay is still horrendous compared to a typical retail job especially for what tutors are expected to put up with - Session notes take way too long and hinder tutoring as you spend less time helping the children and instead focus on writing everything down - Not enough progression opportunities - compering and RMU training is not given out enough - Lack of recognition particularly with additional content stuff - Also with additional content there is a lot more work to be done and you still get the same pay? - Break times are ridiculous, 15 mins for 4.5 hours? Barely enough time to go and get a snack - They expect you to stand on your feet all day even if you only have one child? Doesn't make sense and tires out tutors for no reason - Difficult to manage behavioural issues with certain children and can be seen as personal fault - More training/time needed to go over more difficult GCSE topics - More time needs to be given to additional content tutors to prepare - Compared to regular jobs the perks are useless as 50% for a niece/nephew or sibling is not great and does nothing for the tutor themselves

Many thanks for reviewing your experience as a tutor at Explore Learning. I am sorry to read you don't recommend the role. I am pleased to read you enjoyed working with the kids and it sounds like you had a great team also. Following feedback from our Tutors, we reviewed tutor pay to allow bigger pay increases at annual reviews. Pay rises are performance related and increase alongside length of service. We are currently undertaking a review of all of our staff benefits, so we hope to be able to offer Tutors and Managers better perks soon! We are continuing to review sessions notes; they have significantly decreased in size over recent years, but we understand it can be tricky to get the balance between writing feedback so parents know what their children have been doing and being able to spend the time you would like focussing on the children. I will ensure I pass on all of your feedback to the relevant teams. All the best for the future.
