High-deductible health plan is the only option; if you have a family, that really hurts.
The company has a few locations in India, most of the developers and R&D department is in India, the CTO is there and communicates back and forth with management here. I was hired by the CTO who's usually in India, there was little to no interview process, it was like "you know a few basic things? Come on in, you can learn on the job, take your time." Life under the Chicago management was the opposite of that.
I received no training or direction from the point I started, and was berated for not having more done. I was trying to meet expectations that I was never made aware of until after I "failed" them. When my manager got insulting and abusive for making mistakes, I went to HR and asked them to talk to him, tell them that I need a minimal amount of attention and guidance; it was an entry-level position and I had no experience doing this particular job. They responded by firing me.
Maybe other departments' managers are easier to work with. As I said, everyone else was nice to work with. Except the people who I worked under.
