Pros
In the REIT world Equity Residential looks great on a resume.
Cons
I work in the Orange county Market, corporate management often plays favorites and is not an equal opportunity employer. These are all examples of Management in the Orange County, California portfolio and HR in the West, I cannot speak for management on the East Coast of the United States: Equity management would rather look for outside talent when filling even basic positions, even though there are qualified candidates ready and willing to step up, this is a combination of RM/VP & HR "strategizing expert level". Equity Residential often likes to pigeonhole employees where they see fit in order to benefit the organization whether they or qualified for more or not, and stunt employees growth if it benefits their portfolio's numbers. When you realize these things are not right and you bring them to managements attention, there go to response is: "you're just not committed to your job or this company" or "you have become difficult to manage, and a lot of the managers are noticing" or they would like to remind you of the one time in the last year you were three minutes late to work because your child was ill, even though you called to inform your supervisor before business hours.
