Pros

Salary is reasonably competitive, especially with a low cost of living. Health insurance coverage is the best there is. Food at culinary outlets is good. Campus is well kept and interesting (with individual offices common but not yet universal)

Cons

The hours expected of you are 45 at minimum. Working or logging less than 45 hours in a week means you are seen by your team lead as having extra capacity, even if the week previous was a 60 hour week. It is often assumed that you are willing to work nights and weekends, even for non-critical work. Vacation time and sick leave are below industry average, even when you factor in the 5 year sabbatical benefit. Parental leave is far below the industry average. The company’s internal response to the COVID-19 pandemic has been poor all around. Particularly concerning has been a trend in suppression of any discussion, feedback, or criticism of the response. Leadership has demoted anyone in the management layers that pushes back on our ill-advised return to campus plans. Communication has also been horrible. Despite promise-keeping allegedly being a core tenet of Epic, upper management has failed to uphold their promise to provide an update on the return to campus plan by the end of July.
